Research Interests:

My research focuses on the molecular regulation of transitional events during plant development and stress responses. I am particularly interested in mechanistically describing gene expression as a result of variable environmental inputs, such as changes in day length. Members of my lab are experimentally addressing these areas of interest as they relate to the functions of three interacting transcription factor families called NUCLEAR FACTOR Y (NF-Y). Specific examples include NF-Y functions in photoperiod-dependent flowering time and during responses to the phytohormone abscisic acid. Although our primary approach is discovery through traditional genetic analyses, we take full advantage of modern molecular, biochemical, and in silica techniques to help describe the mechanistics of NF-Y function.
